| In addition to receiving Inner Resources, they will receive some tips for better human living at mid month called Wisdom from the Horse’s Mouth. One of my four horses shares ideas to help you improve your life–from the horse’s point of view. (They share the wisdom, I do the typing).
I will occasionally also send you information or self-improvement offers from colleagues and friends that I think you will find interesting and helpful. I really try to keep a balance between giving you helpful resources so that I’m not flooding you with too much information.
Should you decide you no longer want to receive these emails, just follow the directions at the bottom of this email and Constant Contact will automatically remove you. If for some reason that doesn’t happen (we all know how finicky technology can sometimes prove to be), just drop me and email at linda@InnerResourceCenter.com and tell me you want to be removed and I will personally take care of it.
Find the Right Resources

As many of you know, this past month was very challenging for me due to the injuries my husband sustained in a fire at our farm. He suffered 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns and ended up having surgery to do skin grafts on his hand and arm.
This experience really reinforced for me how important it is to find the appropriate resources for whatever need you may have.
Immediately after the fire, we planned to take Bernie to the local hospital just to be checked out. He didn’t think things were very bad. The fire chief told us that wasn’t where we needed to go. Instead, Bernie was taken by ambulance to the local Trauma Center at the University of Tennessee Hospital. They checked him out, dressed the burns and told us (repeatedly), “We’re not a burn unit.” They referred us on to the Burn Clinic at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville (roughly 200 miles away).
As big of an inconvenience as it was to drive there, that turned out to be the best resource for us. They were the closest Burn Unit and we needed their professional expertise. Working with them on an ongoing basis still isn’t the most convenient, but I think it makes a big difference. Having them help us know what to expect, how to manage scarring and the exercises to do to make sure Bernie doesn’t lose his ability to move his fingers and work with the burned hand gave us the resources we needed to be able to recover from this.
I’ve long been a believer in the importance of having the right resources. That’s why I named my business the Inner Resource Center. I am committed to helping people find the resources they need so that they can transform their lives.
Each of us needs to find the resources that are right for us and right for the task at hand. Sometimes we need information; sometimes we need guidance from a specialist. Sometimes we need only to tap into the resources inside of us. The key is knowing what you need,
Most of us figure this out by examining what our problem or challenge is. We have an idea about the outcome we’d like to have happen. We might have parameters about how much time, energy and money we are willing to invest in that outcome, too. This is usually dependent upon how valuable the outcome is. For example, maintaining mobility in Bernie’s hand was so valuable to us that we were willing to do anything to achieve that.
As you look for resources in your life, be clear about what you are looking for. There are plenty of helpful people and useful tools out there, but you have to find what will work best for you. That will be in large part determined by the outcome you are seeking and how important that outcome is to you.
Check out the credentials and reputations of the people you intend to hire. The time you spend doing that will prove well worth it. Whether you are having a new roof put on, finding a psychotherapist for your daughter, or hiring a business coach to help you in your career, talk to the person you are considering hiring to make sure they are a good fit for you. Do they have the expertise you want? Do they understand you? And, are you willing to invest the time, energy and money necessary?
Sometimes you will find your needed resources nearby; other times you may have to travel further, or undergo some inconvenience to find the right resource. I think that if you are looking for resources for yourself, your family or your business, you need to do whatever is necessary to find the ones that are just right for you. The outcome is too important just to settle for what is easily available, even if it is more convenient.
WHAT’S NEXT?
If you are ready to take the next step, here’s an ACTION CHALLENGE for you:
1. Is there something you have been postponing because you were not sure of finding the right resources to help you with it?
2. If so, figure out what problem you want help with, what you want the outcome to be, and what you are willing to invest to reach that goal.
3. Begin by asking friends, colleagues and family members about resources for that challenge.
4. Next, check out other professionals you trust, especially those who might have a link to someone in that profession.
5. Finally, check on line or in the Yellow Pages for other resources.
6. Collect several names of resources to help you.
7. Begin to interview them by phone. Ask questions. Check references.
8. Trust your instincts. Even if someone has the “right” credentials, make sure they are a good fit for you.
In these challenging economic times, it is especially important to make sure that you are spending your resources wisely. Find resources that allow you to reach your outcome efficiently and effectively. If you pay a third more to consult a specialist who helps you achieve your goal twice as quickly, you end up saving money in the end. Pick your resources intelligently.
If you want some assistance in finding the right resources for you, feel free to contact me at linda@InnerResourceCenter.com . I’ll be happy to share with you what I do best, and if possible I’ll help you get connected with someone who can provide what is most important to you if it isn’t something with which I can help.
